When I speak about being lucky I'm talking about that person that you know that always seems to be winning amounts on the lottery, falling into a fantastic job, has a great family and friend group and generally never appears to have anything go wrong in their lives. On the flip side you've got Mr Unlucky. This poor gentlemen seems to always lose his money on bets, catch colds, is stuck in a dead end job and if one thing goes wrong you can be pretty sure another thing's going to come along on top of that. I know who I'd rather be!
I'm sure that the world doesn't conspire against people. I'm sure the world doesn't make life easy for others on purpose. At the same time I'm sure that we all have a hand in how our lives pan out and whether we're lucky or not, and this is what I want to spend a little time discussing.
For me, luck is all about 1 thing:
When I say perception I'm talking about how an individual perceives their life and the universe in general. If you're the sort of person that can see the positive in things and actively look for the good side of things then generally I believe you're going to be more lucky. If you're more pessimistic and generally see things for the worst they can be then I believe you're going to be less lucky - or at least your perception will be that you're less lucky.
Allow me to explain.
If you're the first person - positive - then your subconscious is going to do some amazing things for you. Being generally positive means your subconscious is going to be generally positive too. Now think about your subconscious as a small child, eager to please (a common analogy in psychology). This small child will want to point the things out to you that you want to see, in this case positive things, and help you ignore the things you don't want to see, the negatives. As this happens throughout your life you're generally going pick up on more of the 'lucky stuff' and less of the 'unlucky stuff'. Having a positive outlook will therefore increase your chance of being lucky. The reverse can be said if you're more of a negative person - your subconscious will want to please you by pointing out the negative things. Sound silly, I know, but it thinks that's what you want to see as that's what you focus on most of the time.
So your perceptions and the way you think can program your subconscious to either make you more or less lucky. Even if you don't agree then it's at least a good talking point. If you do agree then the great thing is you can actually program your subconscious mind to work the way you want it to. By using techniques such as NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) the theory is you can change your subconscious outlook on life and massively impact your perception of the world.
So, what do you think? Do you think your subconscious is that powerful and luck is all about perception? Or do you believe in the fates of the universe and no matter how you think / feel some people are just plain unlucky?
