It's Saturday again and that means it's time for another workout for you all to try. This time it's the last one for November too, December is nearly upon us! Today's workout is all about speed and power so you'll be working quite intensely but for short periods of time with lots of rest.
The idea is to put maximum effort into each move and make sure that you give you body plenty of recovery time in between. The exercises we're going for today:
- squat jumps
- 5 second sprints
- jumping lunges
We're going to combine the exercises like so:
5 squat jumps followed by 5 second sprint followed by 5 jumping lunges. Once that's been completed have about 3-4 minutes of rest to allow your legs, heart and lungs to recover. Repeat this sequence 5-10 times.
This is going to get your heart and lungs working hard and at the same time teach your body to utilise the power it has in its muscles. Power is important because without it we wouldn't be able to move around effectively.
In terms of fat burn this type of exercise is also really useful. Yes, you're only working for a small period of time but in that time you are using huge amount of energy. They key to the fat burn though is your metabolism. By doing sprint / power moves you elicit a response from your muscles that increases your metabolism for up to 24 hours after the workout. That effectively means that even when you're showering after the working, or cookin dinner later in the day, you're still burning fat at a higher rate than normal - bonus!
Anywa, give it a go and see how you get on. Just make sure you're nice and warm first as this sort of workout outs huge demand on your muscles.
